WHAT TO SAY  HOW TO TALK
to your child at mealtime is the KEY to having your child TRY NEW FOODS

The Mealtime Script Kit will show you exactly what to say at mealtimes.

If you’ve been trying to figure out “What else can you say” to your child to get them to take a measly bite, you are probably trapped in the conventional wisdom that your child is the one who has to change.

Getting someone to change NEVER works.  Case in point, how many relationships are doomed because of the classic girlfriend trying to change the boy  (or vise versa)

Believe it or not, this creates three main ways we speak at mealtimes that are most ineffective.

Have you been any of these personas before?

The Briber

If you take 3 more bites, you can have ice cream

If you take 3 more bites, you can get a toy.”

 The Punisher

If you don’t finish everything on your plate, you’re losing your truck

If you eat half your food, you can’t go to the park after dinner.”

The Dictator

Just take a bite, NOW

If you ate it yesterday, you can eat it again today.  I don’t understand what's wrong with you?

At best, they work short term.

At worst it’s pinning YOU against THEM with the perfect set up for a power struggle.

The argument escalates.
Feelings are hurt.
Tantrums happen.
Now nobody is hungry.

To make things worse … Did you know: Young kids are hardwired to seek control.

They learn pretty darn quickly that you can’t make them do anything where their body is concerned.  You can’t make them fall asleep. You can’t make the pee come out. And you can’t force that food down their throat.

As the smart little cookies that they are, they learn pretty quickly where they can WIN their battles.

Kids will also prefer that you give them negative attention over no attention at all.  So even if you are paying attention to them in the form of an argument over a meal ... they still got YOU focused on them.

This cycle ends today

Yes,

  • You can talk to your child at mealtimes in a compassionate way and have them actually listen.
  • There is a way to say things in a way that makes them WANT to try new foods (because that’s the ultimate goal)
  • You can become a team with your child and enjoy each other’s company over food.
  • There is a way to talk to your child at mealtimes that doesn't involve bribing, negotiating of punishing them (and still get them to eat)
  • You can stop feeling worried and overwhelmed at how to interact with your child at mealtimes
  • You can have children that will happily come to the table and enjoy themselves (and the food)

I promise you it’s not magic, but I do rely on 3 principles to make it happen.

Principle #1

You never ask a child to eat a food they don’t have the oral motor skills or the sensory tolerance for.

Principle #2

You are your child’s teacher at mealtime.

Principle #3

The change starts with YOU … I promise they will follow.

Why do I feel so strongly about this?
Because I once was just like your Child.

I’m Ana, Certified Nutritional Consultant, and
founder of Nourished Little Munchkins where I help moms feed their little ones.

I also have a superpower.  I have more taste buds than 75% of the population.

While that might sound like a brag-worthy statistic, it’s actually one of the most annoying superpowers ever.  It means that I taste “bitter” that much more strongly. Broccoli is “spicy” and anything “spicy” is beyond painful … No even joking, I taste that strongly!

As a child, if it did not look right, smell right, feel right, and taste right, it was just not happening.  Does that sound like anyone you know? 😉

Since my default to overcoming bitter tastes became sugar filled snacks, when I was pregnant with my first child, I went back to school to study natural nutrition and then further got training in feeding therapy.

I’m guessing since you’re here, you too learned pretty quick that it’s the “how to get the kid to eat the food” part that’s always missing from Dr. Google. When it comes to taste training, I literally have tried every strategy on myself.

I’m now a boy mom to two toddlers, a 3 year old and a 5 year old, I also use the strategies I learned in feeding therapy in my family every-single-day.

Today I eat the widest variety of foods I have ever had in my life!  And that number keeps on growing!

I’m not about:

Using harsh methods.

Punishing kids for not eating.

Or “tell you to do this” without never have tried it on myself or my family.

What I am is a mom and  Certified Nutritional Consultant trained in feeding therapy who can give you an arsenal of mealtime tools and a mom who can tell you how to make them work in “real-life”.

I want you to picture this

Your child coming to the table without a fuss.

Your child politely expressing why they are nervous about a new food.

You and your child working through making food taste better for them.

Your child enjoying themselves while eating.

You no longer having to go back to the kitchen to make something else.

Making lifetime mealtime memories

This is how you get there ...

Frequently Asked Questions

How much time is required?

I’ve made the videos short and sweet so you can get through them at your own pace.    Once you learn the material, putting into action happens at mealtime which you are doing anyway … it will simply be more effective ;)

How fast can I expect to see results?

Once you change your default words, the dynamic during meals will change pretty quickly. Give it at least a week for younger children to get used to your new way of communicating with them and you’ll see how in turn they will start to curb their own mealtime behaviours all on their own.

I don’t want to use harsh discipline methods for my child. Will this still work?

With every cell in my body, I firmly believe that we never ask a child to eat a food they don’t have the oral motor skills or the sensory tolerance for.  My entire philosophy rests on not only becoming teachers for our kids, but their support system too. There is no room for demeaning, screaming, or yelling at our kids using these principles.

What is my child is not typically developing or has a medical condition like allergies.  Can we still use this?

I believe it’s even more important to take care of the way we communicate to our child when there is a physical barrier making it harder to manage feeding.  Remember how I said earlier that I never ask a child to eat a food they don’t have the oral motor skills or the sensory tolerance for?

The Mealtime Script Kit will be invaluable in helping your child communicate back to you what id actually bothering them about mealtime or food in particular.  You can then move onto problem solving form there from a place of partnership and knowing.

What if it’s not what I expect?

I’m serious about the refund.  But I’m even more passionate about the material I create.  However, it won’t work if you don’t put in the effort. If you’re not ready to make time to listen to the recordings and put what you learn in action, then this is not for you.

Here’s the truth … I get asked “how to I get my child to eat” and in all honesty
... it starts with YOU

YOU have to make the changes before they will.  The first step? Change the conversation at mealtime and watch the magic happen.
